How Relapse Prevention Helps Long Term Sobriety

What Is Addiction Relapse?

The ultimate goal of attending and completing a drug or alcohol rehab program and facility, is to rid yourself of drugs for once and for all, without ever using again -- not even once. That at least is the goal, but no one can say that this is an easy goal to attain. Sobriety will always come with the temptations to use drugs or alcohol again, even after years of sobriety. The moment a recovering addict uses drugs or alcohol after attaining sobriety, is called a relapse.
What Is Relapse Prevention?
Relapse prevention therapy is basically a therapy that teaches recovering addicts skills and tools that they will need in order to beat the temptations to use drugs and alcohol, and relapse. These therapeutic sessions will give the addict the confidence they need to confront any temptations and walk away from the situation back to continued sobriety.
