Why Severe Drug Addicts Need Interventions

When you are an addict, it changes your whole life. Because of your addiction, every aspect of your life has, or will soon change. Everything from what you wear, what you eat, where you live, who you are around, when you get sick, and various other things are directly linked to your addiction. Addiction is so all-powerful, that it is often impossible for addicts to get out of their lifestyle and situation without the help of another. In this article, we will discuss all of the aspects of why severe addicts NEED interventions and subsequent addiction treatment to be able to start on the path to recovery from addiction.

Addiction Is An Addicts Life

Let me start by saying that the addict is not going to make the change themselves -- in most cases. Addiction has become their life, and in the mind of the addict, they are this way until they eventually die. They simply don't have it in them to make the change themselves, they don't want to make the change themselves, or they don't see it as being possible to make the change themselves.

They Need Others to Make The First Step

Getting help for an addiction is much like jumping out of an airplane... Everything in your guts tells you not to jump; that it is dangerous and frightening for you, so don't do it. Even with a parachute on, some need a push to actually make it out of the plane.

An Addict Needs Help to Realize That People Still Care

Most severe addicts don't like themselves too much; in fact, many addicts hate themselves for what they do and what they have become. Because of this, they often see themselves as too far gone to be saved, and that the world will be happier when they are gone. Getting an addict to realize that this is not true, and that there are still people out there that care greatly can be enough of a push to start the recovery ball rolling.

Nobody Wants To Go It Alone

This one is true with all humans; addicted or not. Difficult things are hard to start and can leave a person terrified at just the thought of doing them. It is much easier to start something that scares you and will most assuredly be difficult if others are going on the journey with you. Imagine again the airplane... While some need to be pushed from the plane, others will gladly jump if you jump hand-in-hand with them.

Reasons To Avoid Addiction To Methadone

One of the worst pharmaceutically prescribed drugs that you can get addicted to is methadone. It is very similar to another very popular drug, morphine, which is typically administered to individuals that are suffering from a significant amount of pain. It is a synthetic analgesic drug that can last far longer than morphine, and is actually used to help people that suffer from heroin addiction. However, this drug is also extremely addicting because of how it affects your body, causing it to require more of the drug in order to maintain feeling balanced. Here are some tips you should consider if you are taking methadone, or if you are trying to stop using this opiate based drugs.

Why Opioids Are Addicting

When you take an opiate of any sort, which can include Norco, Vicodin or any one of the many opioids and morphine derivatives that are available by prescription, they have an effect in your brain that actually causes your body to require a consistent amount in order to feel good. This is not the high that is often reference when talking about drugs like fentany, morphine or other opiates. It is how your body reacts when it is no longer able to have it in your system. Opioid dependence causes withdrawals because of how it causes certain receptors in your brain to change and require more stimulation from these opiates. That's why you need to go to a clinic in order to get help for these addictions as they can gradually wean you off of these drugs.

Treatment Centers For Opioid Addiction

You can usually find a treatment center in your area that will help you with relief from this type of addiction. You will have to go through unpleasant symptoms if you have an addiction to pain meds which may include sweating, more pain, or restless leg syndrome. Your doctor will be able to direct you toward a proper clinic for this type of help. This is something that every person that has taken fentany for more than a couple months may have to go through because of how addicting it can be.

Fighting The Battle Against Pain Meds

Pain medications are some of the most powerful drugs there are. While they do wonders to stop severe pain, they are also highly addictive. The problems start because drugs like codeine, Tylenol with codeine and opiods are legal when prescribed by a doctor. It is easy to build up a tolerance to them and slowly you feel like you need more and more. Before you know it, you are addicted.

If you are addicted to morphine derivatives or other pain killers, it is important to get medical help right away. These drugs are almost impossible to stop taking on your own. They cause changes to your body and you really need medical supervision when you want to stop taking them.

Detox and Withdrawal

The withdrawal process can be painful. You may experience pain, shaking, cramps, nausea, and spasms. You have to reduce how much you take of these drugs slowly. Stopping cold can be very hard on your body.

Many people find rehab helpful when they are trying to stop taking pain meds. In rehab, you have a safe place to stop taking the drugs. You don't have to worry about being distracted with your responsibilities. You can just concentrate on getting better.

By the time you are through with rehab, you will be off the pain meds. You need to take an addiction to pain meds seriously. They can damage your health beyond repair and some people actually die from their pain med addiction. If you are addicted you need to get help.

While going through withdrawal is difficult. It is worth it if you want to get off of pain meds. Don't risk your health. If you need help, get it from a professional. The battle against pain meds can be won, but you  have to be willing to fight it.

Getting Substance Abuse Treatment For Inhalants

Inhalants such as glue, whippets and huff are just as addictive as other drugs.  In fact, they are worse as they contain ingredients which are very harmful to the human body.  People who use these types of drugs should seek treatment as soon as possible.

Who Sniffs Glue or Takes Inhalants?

The people who take these kind of drugs tend to come from a lower income bracket.  The reason behind this is that inhalants are much cheaper than drugs like crack or heroin.

The cost of inhalants does not make them any less dangerous than other drugs.  Users still compromise their health, personal lives and careers when they inhale drugs.

How to Get Substance Abuse Treatment

Most addicts will reach a stage where they hit "rock bottom".  When this happens, they may realize they have a problem and seek help.

Inpatient therapy is the best treatment option for addicts.  Though expensive, it has high success rates. Experts believe that this is because addicts take a break from their outside life when they enter an inpatient facility.  This gives them an opportunity to focus on recovery and find ways to resist temptation in the future.

If addicts are worried about the cost of treatment, they should discuss this with the treatment center.  Some centers have payment plans or will be able to recommend another solution.  In many cases, the addict's family will be able to help pay for their treatment.

When it comes to addiction, getting help is crucial.  Those who leave it too late may have health and/or personal problems that will be difficult to remedy.  The sooner an addict gets into rehab, the sooner they can start rebuilding their live.  Many drug addicts have gone on to live long, healthy and happy lives after treatment.

Get Off Of Meth Now To Save Your Life

You'll want to really work on getting off of meth because if you don't do it now, you'll be in really bad shape later. Don't even pick this drug up if you haven't already, it's not worth the pain and suffering it causes.

If someone ever offers you meth, don't take it for any reason at all. Just because you may think that you can try it once and then give it up, that isn't always the case. It can get you addicted just after one time because it will make you feel great when you first try it. Then you'll spend the rest of your time trying it out so you can feel that feeling again, but it won't feel that way for you ever again. This is how the drug traps you, and so you have to be careful not to use it the first time.

Get away from the people that use meth in your circle if you're trying to kick an addiction to it. The last thing you need are people around you that are going to be using around you because then you'll be tempted to start using which can really make it hard to make any progress on your road to getting sober again. Try moving if you have to and change your number. People on meth won't care that you're trying to get clean most of the time so make sure you stay away from them.

Take this advice to heart if you're trying to quit using meth because it can really help you to get started on the road to recovery. Take the tips above and start really working at this so that you can save yourself from a long life of not feeling that great.

Best Ways To Locate Alcohol And Drug Abuse Treatment Centers

Are you thinking about locating a treatment center for your addiction to alcohol or drugs? Alcohol abuse statistics clearly show that millions of people today should follow this course of action. Alcohol and drug abuse is at an all-time high, and that is not simply because there are more people today than a few decades ago. The stress of life, and our industrialized society, has spawned a new generation of people that need drugs and alcohol to survive. However, there are other ways that you can successfully go through life without these addictive products. Here are a few ways you can find rehab centers in your city or town that can help you if you have this type of problem.

The Importance Of Not Being Addicted

There are many reasons why it is important to not be addicted to certain types of substances. People can be addicted to amphetamines, sleeping pills, or pain relieving drugs. People also get addicted to alcohol simply because it is legal and easily accessible, especially in comparison to opiates and other prescription based drugs. However, regardless of your addiction, it is important to take hold of your life, and end your addiction to these substances once and for all.

Locating Alcohol And Drug Abuse Treatment Centers

To find a drug abuse treatment center, you can look on the web and find several businesses that can help you. But calling them up on the phone, you can set an appointment, and start to work with these businesses to achieve a positive result. The same can be said for alcohol treatment centers, many of which have regular meetings that allow people to work with others that are trying to achieve the same goal. By connecting with these groups, and consistently working with them, it can help you end your addiction to these substances.

LSD And How To Get Help With Getting Off Of It

LSD is something that you can take to change your whole perception about the world. It can make you see, hear, and smell things that aren't even there. If you're having a hard time stopping this drug then we're here to help.

When you do LSD all the time it's going to take you more and more just to get the same effect as you got when you first used it. That's why some people become addicted to it, because they enjoy the feelings they get so much that they want to replicate them over and over again. This isn't good for the mind, however, because it depletes certain chemicals that are needed for a person to feel normal. When you use too many drugs all the time it takes a lot longer for your brain to heal for you.

When you decide that you need help, you may want to check into a facility where you can get someone to watch over you while you're getting clean and so that you have someone you can talk to at all times. There's no need not to talk to someone about this problem, and you may as well have it be someone who is trained to deal with an addiction problem like the people at a rehab facility would be. This way, you can also be sure that you're not anywhere near where you could get the drug to stay safe.

After reading through this you should know how to better deal with an addiction to LSD. While it may not physically have you addicted, the mental addiction can still occur. Take this advice and use it to get yourself help with this if you want to move on with your life.

Effects of Sleeping Pills

Sleeping pills were created to provide a solution for those who suffer from chronic insomnia. The body requires at least 7-9 hours of rest on a daily basis in order to function at an optimum level. Yet, many patients are not able to achieve this kind of uninterrupted sleep. Thus, it becomes essential to have sleeping pills prescribed to alleviate the problem. Some patients become addicted to the sleeping pills and this leads to a range of side effects. Let's take a look at some of these side effects.

Short-term Fix

One of the biggest problems with sleeping pills and becoming addicted to them is the short-term fix they provide. The focus is not on resolving the underlying issue that might be causing the insomnia, but to simply get a good night's sleep.

A lot of patients will become addicted to this feeling and will find it to be an easy way out and the best path to take. Yet, this can do a lot of damage as the body should not be requiring sleeping pills on a daily basis.

Health Concerns

Over time, sleeping pills can start to take away from the functionality of the human body. It can start to damage the kidney, liver, and heart in a way that can become irreparable. It is important to cease the use of sleeping pills when it goes to a point of becoming an addiction.

Solutions such as Ambien, Sonata, and Lunesta are great short-term solutions, but should not be relied on to provide relief on a daily basis. This leads to many health concerns that will become a bigger issue down the road.

Sleep medications are not the right solution and one should be looking to get their concerns taken care of by a professional who wants to look at the root cause.

The Progression Of Ketamine

I was always taught that recreational drugs were bad and you should stay away from them.  Alright, this may be a slightly downplayed version of what the anti-drug lectures at school were; but I can promise you if those two hour talks had been summarized into one sentence we probably would have paid more attention.  Drugs, alcohol, promiscuity - all behaviors that weren't on a good girl's 'to do' list, making them even more enticing when provided the opportunity.  Unfortunately, my university years were the stereotypical ones that saw drugs as a necessary social experience.

The first drug I tried was marijuana.  I was at a house party and the host insisted I "take a puff" to lighten the mood.  I enjoyed the sensation of calmness and serenity, but it was nothing compared to ketamine or special K.

Ketamine was originally a club drug used at house parties to emphasize that feeling of dissociation during a rave.  As ketamine is generally used as an anesthetic, the sense of confusion it creates has caused many of its users to utilize the drug in more private settings.  It is also these amnesiac symptoms that cause ketamine to be used as a 'date rape drug'.

As was aforementioned, my university years were stereotypical and filled with a fair share of house parties.  Yes, I enjoyed the use of recreational drugs and on certain occasions found myself partaking in the use of special K.  I am not advocating the use of recreational drugs, not am I against it - this is merely a tale of how dangerous being in a dissociative state can be as I woke up one morning in a house I did not recognize with people I did not know.

I believe I am lucky that I was able to call a friend and get out of that situation unscathed; but it may have been far worse had my mobile not been fully charged before I left home.  I do not use recreational drugs anymore, especially not ketamine, and have not found myself in that situation again.

Addiction to Pain Medications

When a person has an injury, the doctor will often prescribe drugs to help relieve some of the symptoms. The intention is to help them through the largest part of the pain. However, some people become dependent on the drugs. Oxycodone and hydrocodone are used frequently in emergency rooms and dental offices. The substances in these help a person to feel good.

That is where the problem lies. The person not only has relief from the pain, they experience a greater sense of euphoria. Sometimes, the person can get the doctor to prescribe more but, eventually, a reputable doctor will stop prescribing the medications if they are not medically necessary. This is when the person may turn to the streets or the Internet to continue their habit.

The medications are costly when bought on the black market. Additionally, they may not be properly regulated. If the pills are coming from another country, the procedures for developing the pills may be sub-standard. Other ingredients may be in them that could harm or even kill the person taking them.

If you think you have a problem with pain medication addiction, you may need to seek professional help. First, see if you can stop taking them without negative side effects. If not, make an appointment with your doctor. Talk to them about what you have been doing. Ask for their assistance in helping you to break the habit.

If you are reading this because you are concerned about someone else and their addiction to pain medications, you may want to try an intervention. This is where family, friends, and some professionals confront the individual with their worries about it. You should have a plan for rehabilitation already in place. If the addict is willing to go after the intervention, you can help them immediately.

The Truth Behind Magic Mushrooms

I remember the first time I heard of magic mushrooms. I was 15 or 16 years old and I was attending an AA meeting with a youth group I was a part of. I already felt awkward because I didn't drink and I was there. It felt like I was in some type of secret club I shouldn't be privy to. On this particular day I was bored and silently wishing I was somewhere else.

The person heading the group decided to go around the room and ask everyone what their drug of choice was and this girl said that magic mushrooms were her thing. I was a little confused by this, so when I left the center I decided to a little research. I was shocked with what I found.

Basically these mushrooms look similar to those you see in any clearing in the forest. They contain psychoactive indole alkaloids, which cause the user to hallucinate when they are consumed. They go back as far as ancient times when they were used in several rituals, but these days most people that use them do it for recreational purposes.

Typically people consume these mushrooms and experience a "trip" that lasts for several hours. The more often they use them, the more likely they are to experience no effects at all. This is because the body builds a tolerance to them. People who have used this drug have experienced hallucinations, paranoia and an increased sense of fear.

After reading all of this information, I knew that this is not something I would ever want to experience. While it may seem fun at first glance, the reality is that it is an illegal drug that can damage your system and being caught with any can land you behind bars.
