Effects of Sleeping Pills

Sleeping pills were created to provide a solution for those who suffer from chronic insomnia. The body requires at least 7-9 hours of rest on a daily basis in order to function at an optimum level. Yet, many patients are not able to achieve this kind of uninterrupted sleep. Thus, it becomes essential to have sleeping pills prescribed to alleviate the problem. Some patients become addicted to the sleeping pills and this leads to a range of side effects. Let's take a look at some of these side effects.

Short-term Fix

One of the biggest problems with sleeping pills and becoming addicted to them is the short-term fix they provide. The focus is not on resolving the underlying issue that might be causing the insomnia, but to simply get a good night's sleep.

A lot of patients will become addicted to this feeling and will find it to be an easy way out and the best path to take. Yet, this can do a lot of damage as the body should not be requiring sleeping pills on a daily basis.

Health Concerns

Over time, sleeping pills can start to take away from the functionality of the human body. It can start to damage the kidney, liver, and heart in a way that can become irreparable. It is important to cease the use of sleeping pills when it goes to a point of becoming an addiction.

Solutions such as Ambien, Sonata, and Lunesta are great short-term solutions, but should not be relied on to provide relief on a daily basis. This leads to many health concerns that will become a bigger issue down the road.

Sleep medications are not the right solution and one should be looking to get their concerns taken care of by a professional who wants to look at the root cause.

The Progression Of Ketamine

I was always taught that recreational drugs were bad and you should stay away from them.  Alright, this may be a slightly downplayed version of what the anti-drug lectures at school were; but I can promise you if those two hour talks had been summarized into one sentence we probably would have paid more attention.  Drugs, alcohol, promiscuity - all behaviors that weren't on a good girl's 'to do' list, making them even more enticing when provided the opportunity.  Unfortunately, my university years were the stereotypical ones that saw drugs as a necessary social experience.

The first drug I tried was marijuana.  I was at a house party and the host insisted I "take a puff" to lighten the mood.  I enjoyed the sensation of calmness and serenity, but it was nothing compared to ketamine or special K.

Ketamine was originally a club drug used at house parties to emphasize that feeling of dissociation during a rave.  As ketamine is generally used as an anesthetic, the sense of confusion it creates has caused many of its users to utilize the drug in more private settings.  It is also these amnesiac symptoms that cause ketamine to be used as a 'date rape drug'.

As was aforementioned, my university years were stereotypical and filled with a fair share of house parties.  Yes, I enjoyed the use of recreational drugs and on certain occasions found myself partaking in the use of special K.  I am not advocating the use of recreational drugs, not am I against it - this is merely a tale of how dangerous being in a dissociative state can be as I woke up one morning in a house I did not recognize with people I did not know.

I believe I am lucky that I was able to call a friend and get out of that situation unscathed; but it may have been far worse had my mobile not been fully charged before I left home.  I do not use recreational drugs anymore, especially not ketamine, and have not found myself in that situation again.
